The Bedtime Scientist ("the App," "we," "us," or "our") was built privacy-first. The short version: we do not collect, store, sell, or share your personal information. There are no accounts, no logins, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind.

This Privacy Policy explains, in plain language, exactly how the App handles information — and, just as importantly, all the things it deliberately does not do. It applies to The Bedtime Scientist mobile application for iOS and Android.

At a glance

  • No account required. You never create a profile, sign in, or give us your name or email.
  • No data collection. We do not gather personal information about you or your child.
  • No tracking or ads. The App contains no advertising, no analytics, and no cross-app or cross-site tracking technologies.
  • Your activity stays on your device. Favorites, listening progress, and your Up Next queue are stored only on your phone or tablet.
  • Minimal, anonymous network use. The App fetches its story catalog and streams audio over the internet; these requests carry no personal identifiers from the App.

1. Who this policy covers

This policy covers the information practices of The Bedtime Scientist mobile application. It does not cover any third-party website or service you may reach through a link in the App (see "Links to other services" below).

2. Information we do NOT collect

We have designed the App so that it does not collect, request, or transmit any of the following:

  • Names, email addresses, phone numbers, or other contact details
  • Account credentials — the App has no accounts and no sign-in
  • Precise or approximate location
  • Contacts, photos, microphone, or camera data
  • Advertising identifiers (such as Apple's IDFA or the Android Advertising ID)
  • Device fingerprints or any cross-app / cross-site tracking identifiers
  • Analytics, usage telemetry, behavioral profiles, or crash data linked to you

The App contains no third-party analytics, advertising, marketing, or tracking software.

3. Information stored only on your device

To make bedtime simple, the App remembers a few things locally, on your device only:

  • Your favorites
  • Your listening progress (so a story can resume where you left off)
  • Your Up Next queue

This information lives in the App's private storage on your device. It is never uploaded to us, synced to a server, attached to an identity, or shared with anyone. If you delete the App, this information is permanently removed along with it.

4. How the App uses the internet

The App is designed to work offline for browsing, but two features use a network connection:

a. Story catalog updates. The App anonymously requests the current list of available episodes and related content so your library stays up to date. This is a read-only, one-way request. No account, identifier, or personal information is sent.

b. Audio streaming. When you play an episode, the audio streams to your device from our podcast hosting and content-delivery network.

As with any internet request, the providers that deliver this content may automatically process limited technical information — such as your device's IP address and a standard user-agent string — for the sole purpose of delivering the content you requested and protecting the security of the service. The App does not send any personal identifiers in these requests, and we do not use this technical information to identify you, build a profile, or track you across apps or websites. Where this minimal technical processing involves data that may be considered personal under applicable law, our legal basis is our legitimate interest in delivering the content you asked for and keeping the service secure.

5. Third-party service providers

We rely on a small number of reputable providers to store our content and deliver audio, including:

  • Supabase — hosts the read-only story catalog the App syncs.
  • Spotify for Podcasters / Anchor and its content-delivery network — hosts and streams the audio episodes.

These providers process only the technical information necessary to deliver content (as described in Section 4), under their own privacy and security practices. We do not share any personal information with them, because the App does not collect any.

6. No cookies or tracking technologies

The App is a native mobile application. It does not use cookies, web beacons, pixels, session-replay, or similar tracking technologies, and it does not embed third-party trackers.

7. Children's privacy

The Bedtime Scientist is intended to be set up and operated by a parent or caregiver for family bedtime use, and its content is created for children.

Consistent with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the EU/UK GDPR protections for children, and similar laws around the world, we do not knowingly collect, use, or disclose any personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). Because the App collects no personal information from any user:

  • There is no profile, history, or identifier tied to a child.
  • COPPA's verifiable-parental-consent requirements are not triggered, because they apply to the collection of a child's personal information — which we do not do.
  • There is nothing for a parent to review, correct, or request the deletion of.

If you believe a child has somehow provided us personal information, please contact us and we will promptly investigate and address it.

8. Your privacy rights

Because we do not collect personal information, there is no personal data for us to access, correct, delete, or transfer. Even so, we want you to have full control:

  • On-device data: you can clear your favorites, progress, and queue at any time within the App, or remove everything at once by deleting the App.
  • California residents (CCPA/CPRA): we do not collect, sell, or "share" personal information, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioral advertising. There is nothing to opt out of.
  • EEA / UK residents (GDPR / UK GDPR): because we do not collect personal information, the rights of access, rectification, erasure, portability, and objection have nothing to act upon. The only processing involved is the minimal technical delivery described in Section 4, carried out by our providers. You are welcome to contact us with any question or concern.

9. Data retention

We do not retain any personal information about you, because we do not collect any. The data the App stores on your device is kept only on your device, for as long as you keep the App installed, and is erased when you delete it.

10. Security

Your favorites, progress, and queue never leave your device. The App's content and audio requests are made over encrypted (HTTPS) connections. While no method of transmission or storage is ever completely secure, the App's privacy-by-design approach — collecting nothing — is the strongest protection of all.

11. International users

The App can be used worldwide. Your on-device information always stays on your device, wherever you are. The content and audio you request may be served from servers our providers operate in various countries; only the minimal technical information needed to deliver that content (Section 4) is involved.

12. Links to other services

The App and our website may contain links to external resources — for example, our website or a support email address. Once you leave the App, this Privacy Policy no longer applies, and we are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third-party services. We encourage you to review their policies.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above, and for material changes we will provide a more prominent notice within the App or on our website. Your continued use of the App after an update takes effect means you accept the revised policy.
